Job Description

The Cancer Care Solution Specialist serves as the primary support and coordination point for members diagnosed with cancer, guiding them compassionately and efficiently through the CHM sharing process. This role exists to ensure members and their families receive clear communication, emotional and spiritual support, and timely access to high-quality, cost-effective cancer care resources.

At the highest level, this position focuses on advocacy, coordination, and stewardship—walking alongside members throughout their cancer journey while collaborating with internal teams and clinical partners to ensure accurate sharing determinations, seamless care coordination, and alignment with CHM guidelines and mission.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the initial and ongoing point of contact for members diagnosed with cancer, providing clear communication, emotional support, and prayer throughout the care journey
  • Collect, review, and manage required clinical and financial documentation to support accurate and timely sharing determinations
  • Assess member eligibility, membership level, CHM Plus participation, and applicable cancer-related programs to guide appropriate support options
  • Collaborate closely with the Nurse Navigator and internal CHM departments to coordinate care, referrals, and treatment pathways
  • Facilitate provider negotiations, including establishing Single Case Agreements (SCAs) and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) related to cancer care
  • Support cancer-related bill processing activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance with CHM guidelines, and timely resolution
  • Guide members toward diagnosis-specific financial assistance programs and strategies to optimize lifetime maximums when applicable
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of member interactions, documentation, and case progress within CHM systems
  • Respond to member inquiries and concerns via phone, email, and internal communication channels in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute feedback to enhance member experience, operational efficiency, and care outcomes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Postsecondary education in healthcare, social services, or a related field a plus, but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated

Experience Equivalency

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Program Services, healthcare coordination, medical billing, or a related member-support role
  • Equivalent experience in healthcare case management, insurance navigation, or patient advocacy may substitute for formal education

Certifications

  • No legally required certifications
  • Cancer-related care coordination or medical billing certifications preferred but not required; may be obtained post-hire if applicable

Additional Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of medical billing processes and healthcare workflows preferred
  • Basic understanding of CHM guidelines and bill processing workflows strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with standard office technology and electronic documentation system
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, emotionally charged situations with professionalism and empathy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
