Description - The Eighth Judicial Circuit Court is seeking to fill a Family Mediator position at the Alachua County Courthouse in Gainesville, FL. The essential function of the position is to conduct mediations and draft settlement agreements for family and county court. This position requires in-office work and may require travel throughout the six counties of the Eighth Judicial Circuit. The selected candidate will begin in January of 2026. This position is open until filled.

Functions, Responsibilities, Competencies - Must have exceptional communication skills, with the aptitude to write clearly and concisely, as well as to communicate concepts orally, with quick resolution to pending issues. Able to conduct both remote and in-person mediations for court-referred cases. Adept at facilitating thorough discussion of issues between parties and promoting conflict resolution through self-determination. Capable of preparing/drafting settlement agreements, court orders, or impasse reports on all cases mediated; able to review agreements with all parties involved and manage execution of said agreements. The ability to decipher legal documents such as contracts to ensure comprehension of issues in dispute is a must. Considerable knowledge of family law rules, statutes and procedures, child support calculations, and experience with conflict resolution and other problem‐solving theories strongly preferred. Must be able to review case files, confidential reports, and other materials pertinent to cases, adhere to strong ethical standards, and inform litigants concerning the mediation process prior to commencement of every mediation. Must complete closing paperwork and statistical records/reports for mediation cases, as well as perform some clerical tasks. Must be flexible with job roles, covering county mediations, administrative tasks, maintenance of ADR practitioner lists, working with volunteers, and other assignments, as needed.

Education and Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‐year college or university and certification as a Family Mediator plus five years of related experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis. J.D. preferred. Applicants with strong family law knowledge not currently certified may be considered but must obtain family and county mediator certifications within 60 days of hire.
